Whatever the garden design brief, low maintenance, traditional or contemporary, town gardens should be havens from the bustle of city life.
1. Design for an awkward shaped garden which flows from new extension into calm relaxing space
A garden for a grown up family needed to have plenty of extra seating areas – timber seats were built on top of the raised beds, around the main terrace. A small recycling water feature: water overflows from copper cups down into a small pool and are seen directly from the new extension. Beyond the terrace a circular lawn is glimpsed through the pergola, adding another ‘room’ to the town garden. Kingston

2. Bringing form and structure to a sloping site
A garden built on three levels, using retaining brick walls to create a formal layout and easy movement around the garden. An arbour on the upper terrace, the summerhouse and a bench in the lower garden offer different options for relaxing in the sun or shady areas of the garden! Winchmore Hill, North London
3. A new sunken garden and balcony views from town house
Converting a lightwell into a sunken garden, transformed this town garden. Access to the upper lounge and kitchen of the two floor apartment was via a new specially designed balcony. Vibrant planting includes a palette of bright and rich reds, yellows, oranges and clarets, overlaying a backdrop of architectural and evergreen plants.
